  1. Apple

    Yes, that's the Apple logo I'm working on . . .

And yes, it's from one of the Apple stores.

Yes, I'm doing restoration work that no-one else could do. Yes, they searched and searched. And they found me!

No, it's not all I do for the Apple stores. There's more. Lots more! Because there's no-one else out there who does what Marble Maestro does, and as well as we do it . . .

  1. Mosaic Marble Wall Restoration

A job no one would have tried, but we took it on: grinding and polishing a mosaic marble wall.

This small area would have taken a day if the area was horizontally on a floor. Being on the wall however was a different story, and the job took 65 hours to do!

    Talk about timing!

If you've ever messed about with Google Earth, or even Google Maps, and gone down into "street view", then this partial browser screenshot with its navigation tools might look familiar.

A client sent me the link to this particular location! How's that for timing!

    It's yours truly!

  1. Marble Maestro servicing a cruise ship!

    Marble Maestro works a miracle!

Last Thursday morning I got a call from a cruise ship in distress! They needed a marble repair, and quick.

We jumped to the rescue, sourced the marble we needed for the job, and by Friday night 1 hour before the ship was due for departure we completed the repair...

Needless to say the client was thrilled with our service!

Air, land and sea, Marble Maestro will polish the worlds marble!!

  1. New Business Cards

I have just collected from the printer a new set of business cards for Marble Maestro.

I think these showcase very well what we do, with the "being restored" Peel Street statue on the front, and the freshly polished floors of 1 Wood on the rear.

Mmm, you might ask "why the odd square shape for a business card?" Well, simply so that if our cards are in the rear rows of a card holder, we can still be visible! Presto!

Keep a look out for these new notables at a card caddy near you!

  1. Peel Statue

Wow, where did July go?! Well, besides taking a short holiday from the work routine, we have been full-steam ahead, with no breaks for a post. Mmmm, OK, I'll get better at this!

Anyway, one of the more unusual job's I've had recently was restoration of the statue at the corner of Peel and Maisonneuve, downtown Montreal.

Designed by Paul Lancz, who was Commissioned by Mr Lepine who built the Le Cartier building behind it, the statue is of marble sourced from Italy by Joe Panzera, owner of Ciot.

A real beauty, and several weeks of work to bring her back to full brilliance.

  1. Mosaic Restoration

This old mosaic works, created in the late 1800 is being restored to perfection.

Each mosaic is being cut one at a time to fit as close to the original as possible.

It has taken 1 week of prep and 2 weeks of work so far to restore it, and this Friday I am hoping to have the completed masterpiece back in its original location. I'll post pics of this ASAP!

  1. 1 Wood

Marble Maestro is presently working at 1 Wood, a residence complex with impressive and extensive marble and granite floors.

The floors are in dire need of restoring, and as the picture below shows, they have very little life and shine in them.

When we're done, I'll post the "after" shot for you!

  1. Statue Of David

I was asked recently if there had ever been a time when my motivation for what I do had received a big boost. Or if I had ever had a change of perspective that affected my view of marble work.

Like a lightening bolt! In the 1990's I took a trip to Cassino in Italy, to find my roots, and to spend time with some of the masters of Marble restoration and stone work. I have several photos from this trip here in the "About" section of the website.

Well, during my stay in Italy, I visited Florence, and saw the statue of David, sculpted by Michelangelo from 1501 to 1504. Up till this time there had been jobs of mine which I had viewed as hard, both physically and technically.

When I stood in front of the statue, I recognized and beheld a beauty and perfection and knowledge of marble like none other. This changed my perspective of my own work, and I experienced a huge mental shift. From that time on, any and all of my work with marble would take on a new feeling of ease! Nothing I could do would ever seem that hard again, compared to the mastery of marble that I at that moment stood gazing in front of.

  1. New Product Labels

Marble Maestro has had a heavy work schedule this last month, with new jobs coming in every week! I'll take that as a good sign! Very satisfied clients referring us new clients has been a large part of our growth, and things are going really good.

In addition to this regular work load, we've been looking at a line of products, like our Finishing Cream, and designing labels for these. Keeping a uniform image of quality and brand recognition, Marble Maestro is taking our service, and products related to this, to a new level of professionalism.

Keep a look out for our new floor signs coming soon!

  1. Stone Shaping Technology

I recently came across the website of Breton, the Italian masters of high-tech stone working and crafting.

Breton have an impressive line of programmable stone lathes and saws for milling and turning marble, granite and stone.

Take a look at these links, with photos and video, to see their machinery in action. Very impressive!

  1. In the quarries, where it all begins

I'm infinitely fascinated by all things marble.

So it's not surprising that I find information and visuals on the origin of marble compelling entertainment!

Anyway, there are numerous online videos on marble and stone, but some of the raw and very engaging ones are from the quarries, where it all begins.

Like this one. This is out-take footage from Gina Minervini's incredible docustory THROUGH THE EYES OF THE SCULPTOR. A 300 ton piece of marble is carefully pushed and dropped off inside the marble quarries of Pietrasanta, Italy.
